Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) presidential candidate Miria Obote (right) will tomorrow start her campaign trail in Bugiri, at the spot where her late husband, Apollo Milton Obote, last addressed a rally in Uganda before he was toppled in 1985.

Miria has also appointed five former ministers under the Obote II government to the national campaign task force. They are Abner Nangwale, Yosamu Mugenyi, Matia Kisembo, Ezra nkwasibwe and Henry Makmot.

The party national chairman, Prof. Patrick Rubaihayo, heads the taskforce and Bukooli North MP Patrick Mwondha is the deputy chairman of the committee on which Mary Tiberondwa, wife of the Late Prof. Adonia Tiberondwa, also sits.

Bugiri, where Obote also built one of the 22 hospitals, is in Mwondha’s constituency. It was a site of an emotional downpour in October when Obote’s cortege was heading to Akokoro for burial.

MPs Tom Odit, Jacob Oulanyah, Sam Anyolo, Wagonda Muguli and Alex Lobidra are other members of the taskforce, a statement by information officer Yogha Adhola said on Monday.

Adhola said Miria would also address a rally in Busia on the same day before travelling to Tororo and Busolwe in Bunyole.

He said on December 27, Miria would be in Manafwa and Mbale districts before proceeding to Sironko and kapchorwa the following day.

She will head to Kumi and Soroti on December 29 and close the year in Katakwi, Moroto and Kotido. No rally has been scheduled in Pallisa.
